In landscaped or finished land (driveways etc), where open cutting is not practical it may be possible to use an impact mole. A 'mole' is a torpedo-shaped pneumatic device which drives through soil using a percussive or hammer effect. The pipe or duct is usually drawn in behind the mole. Two small pits are dug and the mole is sent from one pit to the other which avoids digging up the area between the pits and causes minimal fuss.
